Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven

Here's the lesson summary for last week:

Matthew 6:10
Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as
it is in heaven.

This is the second line of the Lord's prayer and when we pray this, we are inviting God to come into our lives. We are telling Him that He is our King.

What does it mean when someone is King?
It means He is in control and that we lead our lives, folliwng His rules and boundaries (which are found in the Bible.)

We no longer sit on the thrones of our lives and do as we please to get what we want. We let Him sit on the throne and do His will, what He wants for us. For His will is perfect!

Romans 12:1-2
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your
bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act
of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and
approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

So how do we know what His will is?
Through the people around us (our family, our small group etc.)
Through the Word of God (when we read the Bible or listen to a sermon)
Through spending time with God (praying or doing quiet time)

(Note that all these should be aligned with the teaching in the Bible, i.e. they should not contradict each other.)

Often we tend to try and take control and pull God off the throne. Hence, we need God's strength, the people around us (to keep us accountable) and to have discipline to continually surrender our lives to Him. Help one another in this aspect ya?

love,
Chuu Ling

Preliator lyrics - the crucifixion

Was listening to the song Preliator by Globus and happened to be interested in the lyrics. They are quite cool. Here is the translation:

1 God save us
Tender Earth (or God of Luck, conflicting sources)
Your eternal
Death, sacred, atoning

2 This heals my fortune
My legion has come
Fortune, fortune equals
A swirling battle for truth

3 God saves us
the God of Fortune
Protect(ing) the holy cause

4 Eternal judge,
Enduring always
Leader, king, ruler of the universe

5 The sun prays to the Messiah
Protecting the sacred cause
Illuminating father
Glory in his resurrection

6 The sun prays to the Messiah
Protecting the sacred cause
Illuminating father
Glory in one life

Darkness of the Earth
Evil of this land
Is late for a gathering
Bear children as from the Lord
Illuminating king and father of the universe

The sun prays to the Messiah
Protecting the sacred cause
Illuminating father
Glory in one life

Tearfully weeping
In as from the Lord

I believe you will recognise some of the scenes shown or implied here. very own right? PS Is there any way to upload MP3 of this?

Our Father in Heaven

For this first quarter of 2008 we'll be going through the Lord's Prayer to learn more about who God is.

In our first week, we talked about God as our "heavenly Father" and what that image entails.

"This, then, is how you should pray: " 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

(Matthew 6:9)

By using the term "Father", Jesus was telling the Jews that God is not just a God to be feared and worshipped. He was telling them that God wants them to have a much closer and personal relationship with Him, like that of a father with a child.

As a loving Father, God takes care of you in 2 ways:
The second part of Matthew 6:9 talks about our response as God's children. The word "hallowed" can either mean to 'set apart as holy' or 'to honour'. So what are some ways that we can honour God?
I pray that in the coming weeks, God will teach us how to love and honour Him as our heavenly Father.

New Year's Resolutions

For those of you who weren't around this past Sunday, we did something very typical of the start of the year: New Year's Resolutions. To many of us, this seems like quite a silly exercise coz we can't seem to keep most of them anyway, but failure is the mother of success. If we never bother trying, how will we ever achieve anything?

Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

(Philippians 3:13-14)

As we enter into the new year, I hope that we all can encourage each other to grow stronger in Christ and support each other as we endeavour to do better this year, whether it be treating our siblings better, being more consistent about quiet time, or eating less junk food.

On a lighter note, the first person to tell me which computer game the character on the Resolutions sheet came from will get a prize ;P
